University of Electronic Science and Technology of China Welcomes Class of 2024 with Grand Opening Ceremony

The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China UESTC celebrated a grand opening ceremony for the Class of 2024's new graduate students on September 3rd, welcoming an impressive cohort consisting of 1,258 doctoral candidates, 6,669 postgraduate students, 281 international scholars from 48 nations, and 358 trnees from China Electronics Corporation CEC.

The event was honored by the presence of esteemed guests including Party Secretary Cao Ping, President Hu Jun, other UESTC leadership members - Hu Haoquan, Peng Lan, Xu Hongbing, Kong Lingjiang, and Luo Guangchun. The ceremony also welcomed Academician Deng Longjiang and Peng Xinshi from the Ministry of Education. Deans and directors of various departments, parents of new students, as well as all Class of 2024 graduate students were present.

President Hu Jun addressed the gathering, exting warm greetings on behalf of the university leadership and Party Secretary Cao Ping. He motivated the students to pursue innovative research with courage, serve society through volunteer work, and be inspired by the achievements of UESTC's exemplary past graduates. He outlined three key expectations for them:

Firstly, he encouraged the students to uphold national pride and dedication in their studies and contributions to the community.

Secondly, Hu Jun emphasized the importance of fearless exploration and innovation, urging the students to follow scientific trs, adhere to four core orientations, and serve China's self-reliance through creativity in research.

Lastly, he called on students to mntn academic ethics and foster a positive scholarly environment by being diligent, respectful towards knowledge, and committed to upholding academic standards and integrity.

Vice President Hu Haoquan announced the scholarship awards for the Class of 2024 while Professor Lin Yuan from the School of Materials Energy represented faculty members, urging students to carefully plan their futures, strive relentlessly, and pursue dreams with determination.

Luo Shihua, a doctoral student recognized as an Outstanding UESTC Student, shared his personal experiences, inspiring his peers to stay determined, engage in meaningful research, and embrace responsibility through compassionate actions. Liu Zihan, a postgraduate from the School of Information Communication Engineering, concluded by reflecting on his undergraduate journey at UESTC, expressing aspirations for a new academic phase focused on lofty ideals.

The ceremony concluded with all attees joining hands to sing Motherland's Hymn, the spirit of unity and pride filling the r. The event was widely covered across media platforms including Xinhua News Agency and People's Dly.
