The purpose of the Graduate Game Plan is to provide guidance and advice for navigating through graduate education stages. It serves as a comprehensive guide that covers all aspects of your graduate school journey, from admission to graduation.
As a UBC student, you are advised to read this plan at every stage of your program. This includes newly admitted students who can use it to create timelines and get an overview of what's ahead in their academic career. For ongoing students, the guide helps them manage their programs smoothly while identifying ways to overcome barriers and advance towards their goals.
The Graduate Game Plan is designed for all graduate students at UBCboth new applicants as well as current students. It divides the journey into four stages: Getting Started, Before You Come, When You Arrive, Identify Your Career Goals, First Year, m For Success, Mid-Program, Review Your Progress, Health and Wellbeing, Near Completion, Present and Publish, Expand Your Community, The Finish Line, Plan Your Next Steps.

The plan is structured with four mn stages:
Getting Started: This stage covers all preparatory steps before you arrive at UBC.
Before You Come: Focuses on what you can do during your pre-arrival period to prepare better for your studies.
When You Arrive: A guide for first-year students including managing responsibilities, finding academic paths, and setting up a timeline.
Identify Your Career Goals: Helps you align your academic journey with future professional aspirations.
For those nearing completion, the plan offers tips on presenting and publishing work while expanding your community of scholars. Lastly, it assists in planning ahead post-graduation.
The Graduate School is committed to improving student funding, promoting excellence in graduate programs, enhancing supervision quality, supporting Indigenous inclusion, advancing student development and success, and reimagining graduate education for a better experience.
Initiatives like the Public Scholars Initiative and 3 Minute Thesis 3MT competition are designed to enrich this educational journey.
